Situated in the heart of Trivandrum, in a coastal village, The Sea Side Homestay is a homely niche to settle in for your vacay. In this habitat, you can experience the best of Keralite culture and cuisine that are most unique to our hearts, that will fill both your mind and body to sew tales in the future.
This seaside home in a bygone era belonged to the son of one among the triumvirate poets of Kerala, Ulloor S. Parameswaran Iyer, P. Mahadeva Iyer.
Historical importance of Shangumugam
Shangu means ‘Conch’.
The city Thirivananthapuram got its name from the Hindhu God Ananthapadmanabha Swamy who holds a Conch(Shangu), Discuss sword(Chakra), Mace (Gadha) and Lotus in his four arms. Sree Ananthapadmanabha is the presiding deity of Padmanabhaswamy temple famous for it’s treasure trone. Even today the presiding deity is taken out in procession and escorted by the head of Travancore Royal Family for Aarattu (Holy bath) in the Arabian sea at Shangumugham.
The emblem of Travancore royal family is also a Conch. The monuments in the beach include Aarattumandapam, Beach side palaces, a Temple pond and other structures. Hindu rituals like Balitharpanam and Ganesh Nimanjan takes place at Shangumugham. The Devi temple is another attraction for tourists.
